The Community Backyard of
the Mental Health Association in Orange County sponsors a FREE Family
Skills-building curriculum, The Strengthening Families Program to
Chatham County families with children ages 10-14. The SFP program is
designed to prevent teen substance abuse and other behavior problems,
strengthen parenting skills, build family strengths, and allow families
to spend time together and have fun. Parents/caregivers and youth are
invited to attend the FREE 7 week program on a week night from
5:30-8PM. Parents/caregivers and youth are separated each session and
taught through role-playing, discussions, projects, and games; and then
families are brought back together to reinforce the session’s
objectives. SFP has been proven effective in delaying the onset of
adolescent substance use, lowering levels of aggression, increasing
peer pressure resistance, and increasing the ability for parents to set
appropriate limits, show affection to and support their children. Food
will be provided at each session, transportation and child-care are
available upon request.
Please contact Billie Guthrie (bguthrie@mhaoc.com) or Russelle Passino (rpassino@mhaoc.com)
at 919.942-8083 to register or find out more information. Space is
limited. There will be another session in Chatham County coming soon! |
